Dharma

Branches of dharma:
  • Yajna (sacrifice)
  • Svadhyaya (self-study)
  • Dana (charity)
  • Tapasya (austerity, meditation)
A disciple dwells in the house of the teacher and is firmly grounded in the Lord.

An Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because of Your just punishments, but most of all because they offend You, my God, who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Amen.

A Word

A careless word may kindle strife;
A cruel word may wreck a life.
A bitter word may hate instil;
A brutal word may smite and kill.

A gracious word may smooth the way;
A joyous word may light the day.
A timely word may lessen stress;
A loving word may heal and bless.

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."
- Mother Teresa

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself...
  • To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind
  • To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet
  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them
  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true
  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best
  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own
  • To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future
  • To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile
  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others
  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble

Meaning of Mean

What makes a person mean?

Well, I would not have given this word much thought had it not been for a few pretty girls checking out the word at work today. Besides, I too may have a mean streak that until now may have been vying for my attention in the midst of goodness.
However, their enthusiasm and my curiosity with some public display of meanness do make the day mean and meaningful.

Although not meant to be comprehensive, here are three mean types:

  1. People who are just predisposed to being mean.
  2. People who choose to be mean.
  3. People who do not know how to be mean.

How would you react if a graceful girl tells you that she is indeed mean?
Funnily enough, you would want to like her more.
How would you react if a mean girl tells you that she is indeed graceful?
Whatever that would mean ... it would be meaningless.

Most bosses are mean.
Some teachers are mean.
Few neighbours are mean.
The thing about being mean is that it is right there...
in the middle of being good and being wicked.

Data are presented as mean values,
And by no means would meanness have a standard deviation.
We all know the standard error of the mean.
But by all means, I sincerely hope your means to be mean are lean.

Think about these Things

Finally, brothers and sisters,
whatever things are true,
whatever things are honorable,
whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure,
whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report;
if there is any virtue,
and if there is any praise,
think about these things.
(Philippians 4:8)

Vessels of Honour

O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?
Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
(Romans 9:20-21)
These verses show that we are not to dispute with our Maker, nor to reason with Him as to why He does not give as much grace to one as to another.

Because the whole lump of our clay is vitiated by sin, it is owing to
  • His goodness and mercy that He makes out of it a vessel of honour
  • His justice that it be made into a vessel of dishonour in punishment of unrepented sin
